I think this is good news

$7 million in funding! It won't be a lump sum of course, it will be fed out as needed, but I believe this is a huge step forward.

Finding ways to help our indigenous people stay at school, having indigenous teachers who understand and can teach the cultural heritage along with the standard curriculum, surely this is a good thing.
We have Catholic schools, where religion is part of the curriculum, Jewish schools, where their culture and religion is studied, languages are studied such as French, German, Indonesian.
Now here is a chance for our own Indigenous people to have their own languages, culture and history studied as well as the usual Math, English, Science etc.
And it's about time! Should have happened years (decades) ago.

  1. You are so very right. It is great news. And I hope that some of the teachers will stay in rural areas where they teach, encourage and be positive role models for some of the most disadvantaged people in Oz.

  3. Yep, absolutely it should have happened a long time back but at least something is getting done now :)

  5. mybabyjohn has made a terrific comment.

Thinking about my only year of secondary school (Prahran Tech) teachers were the lowest people I have ever experienced in my life, and that includes Pentridge and the gutters of St Kilda.

It never occurred to these educated self-absorbed bastards -or they didn't care, that my troubles were due to living with drunken sots who were not my parents and who exposed me to the most sickening behaviour in all humanity.

    I grew up too quick.

  7. EC; having some of the teachers go to and stay in the rural and outback areas is part of the plan.

    Delores; yes, I agree.

Jayne; better late than never. I'll be interested to see how well the scheme works.

    Pearl; yes.

R.H. sadly, back then teachers didn't know or care much about the home environments. Their sole job was to teach in the classroom. I wish things could have been different for you.

Windsmoke; at least it's beginning now, hopefully to continue for a long, long time.

  8. Bloody shitheads, they've always known.

Career is the object: pay the mortgage, become a principal, and retire on superannuation aged 55.

    Mongrels.

    Bludgers.

This is the lower middle class, posers, boneheads who built mud brick houses in the seventies, parking their fat arses at cafe tables now, wailing about the dispossessed whilst hating them all -black AND white.
