Sunday Selections # 226

Image
Welcome back to Sunday Selections! This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock , as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs. The rules are very simple:- 1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title 2. link back to me, River , somewhere in your post 3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted. 4. hop on over to The Elephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.   Andrew often joins in too. I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week my theme is:  Friday in Adelaide. I remembered to charge the battery for my smaller camera and tossed it into my bag on my way out the door. Here is what I saw on my way across town: Close to where I wait for my bus: four two storey townhouses.. being constructed.. on a block which once held

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays , Delores, from Under The Porch Light , has a word challenge meme which she calls “Words for Wednesday”. She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem. I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story. It’s a fun challenge…why not join in? Delores is still having a few computer problems, so once again, the words come to us via Elephant's Child. This week's words are: 1. cheer 2. cart 3. panoramic 4. various 5. devilish 6. ? AND: (or) 1. trickle 2. illustrious 3. sound 4. flavour 5. psychedelic 6. type we also have "drowning in sleep". I have no idea what to do with that, so I'm just using the words (*~*) Here is my story: The party promised to be a blast. It was my parents forty-seventh anniversary and my older brother Vinnie had the great idea to surprise them with a psychedelic colourama affair reminiscent of the late sixties when they had marri

well this is not good...

AngelBoy has just vomited up his dinner. But at least he hopped off the couch and streaked into the bathroom before letting loose. Perhaps he gobbled too fast.

Thursday Thoughts # 48

from Bones Never Lie by Kathy Reichs "I had the window seat this time, watched as Costa Rica disappeared beneath us. When I could stand the silence no longer, "wonder what the weather's like in Charlotte" " Continued dark overnight, widely scattered light by morning.'" from a Harry Dresden novel by Jim Butcher (Harry-rescuing a runaway child) (child)"I see all these Disney shows about how much parents love their kids. How there's some sort of magical bond of love. But it's a lie." She laid her head on my shoulder and I could feel the exhaustion in her body as she sagged against me. "There's no magic." (Harry)I fell silent for several paces as I carried her. It was hard to hear that from a kid. A ten-year-old girl's world should be full of music and giggling and notes and dolls and dreams- not harsh, barren, jaded reality. If there was no light in the heart of a child, a little girl like this, then what h

Musical Monday # 61

Image
Hard to believe I've been doing this for over a year already ! Musical Monday I was introduced to Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site. I think it’s a fun way to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same time.  I’ll be finding my clips on you tube , so will simply credit that site since there are often so many versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong artist. Today we're going country again, because I really like this stuff :)  I understand not everyone does, but give it a listen anyway? Today’s clip is: Gretchen Wilson Redneck Woman and the lyrics: I hope they play for you.
