Monday Musings # 9

"There is no greater contrast than that between the miracle of our existence and the mundanity of having to experience it every day." TV chef and author Adam Liaw. I've been watching season 8 of The Big Bang Theory and in one episode, shortly after Howard's mum has died, Howard and his wife Bernadette arrive at his mum's home where Stuart, the comic store owner, is now living. Stuart had been looking after Debbie since she injured herself. (an ankle I think) Stuart tells them there has been a power failure since late last night and power should be back tomorrow morning.  Howard races to the kitchen and flings open the freezer door, getting very emotional at all the food stored in there. "The very last food my mum ever cooked".  He doesn't want it to all go to waste, so they decide to cook it all and have a dinner party, inviting Leonard and Penny, Raj and Emily, Sheldon and Amy to share in the bounty.  I've lived through a power outage

Sunday Selections # 243

Image
Welcome back to Sunday Selections! This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs. The rules are very simple:- 1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title 2. link back to me, River , somewhere in your post 3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted. 4. hop on over to Elephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.   Andrew often joins in too. I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections but this week I have a random assortment of stuff beginning with.... this>> airship, or blimp if your prefer. I heard a noise and assumed it was a far away helicopter, so glanced up and saw this flying past my home. Raced in for the camera of course! it's advertising 'appliances online' but it's a speedy

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
On Wednesdays , assorted people have been taking monthly turns at putting up a selection of six (or twelve) words which is called “Words for Wednesday”. We have taken over this meme from Delores , who had been having computer problems. This month the meme continues here , at the most - - of every moment.  Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.      Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.    What we do with those prompts is up to us:   a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore... Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.   I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme.   If you are posting on your own blog - let us know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.   I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story. It’s a fun challenge…why not join in? This week's

Thursday Thoughts # 64

from Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay "I ran my palm over my forehead. A major storm front of a headache was moving in. A migraine monsoon." from Speaking in Bones by Kathy Reichs " Cat's don't care if you speak with your mouth full. A character trait I much admire." Currently reading Strong Conviction by Trevor Scott. Today's Thoughts: I've got a blank page staring at me while I stare at it. Do pages actually stare? Or do they just sit there waiting to be written or drawn upon? We'll never really know. I don't have thoughts to share. Nothing deep and meaningful anyway. I've had three or four days of knowing Thursday is coming and I need to write something, but I've come up empty. I can tell you that a couple of days ago I saw a woman on TV showing off a tomato that grew in her yard, (I think, or maybe it came in a box of tomatoes she bought, I don't pay a lot of attention to TV), it was bright red and shaped exactly

I hope there's nothing important on the news tonight, TV's off and I'm listening to Trisha Yearwood.  I've got a 50 song playlist set to repeat.  I have a new set of external speakers for my laptop and they make listening a movie theatre type experience.  Heaven is in my lounge room!

Musical Monday # 70

Image
Musical Monday I was introduced to Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site. I think it’s a fun way to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same time.  I’ll be finding my clips on you tube , so will simply credit that site since there are often so many versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong artist. Today’s clip is: Trisha Yearwood The Song Remembers When Songs are funny that way. Like scents , aromas , they can trigger memories long forgotten.
